Greater Western Sydney

Senator Payne is based in Parramatta, in the heart of Greater Western Sydney (GWS).

GWS is one of the most dynamic and fast growing regions in Australia with a population of about 2.02 million people.

Many new migrants to Australia settle in GWS, resulting in a level of diversity unmatched by any other region. The rich tapestry of cultural influences in GWS is proudly on display in many of the region's centres.

There are over 150,000 local businesses operating in GWS employing a workforce of over 900,000 people, making the region’s economy one of Australia’s largest, most diverse and fastest growing, with an estimated Gross Regional Product of $95.6 billion in 2010-11.

Although the majority of the population in GWS lives in urban and suburban areas, the region also contains extensive parks, sporting and recreational facilities, bushland, and rural and agricultural areas.

Major waterways that flow through GWS include the Hawkesbury Nepean River system; Sydney’s main water supply, the Parramatta River, which becomes Sydney Harbour; and the Georges River, which flows into Botany Bay.

The federal electorates that make up GWS include; Banks, Blaxland, Chifley, Fowler, Greenway, Hughes, Lindsay, Macarthur, Macquarie, McMahon, Mitchell, Parramatta, Reid and Werriwa, as well as parts of Bennelong, Berowra and Watson.
